Magazine Covers and Film Posters
The Magazine Cover

Genre: At Your Own Discretion
Students are to analyse and discuss all aspects of a magazine cover, looking at key terms that are used effectvely to create meaning to its designated audience. Terms such as Masthead, Anchorage Text and Key Signifier are but a few that students will research in order to construct a solid understanding of their uses.
Students are to then create their own Magazine Covers using Adobe packages such as Photoshop or Illustrator. Students will pay particular attention to demonstrating appropriate use of Media Language, Audience, Institutions and Representation.
The Film Poster

Genre: At Your Own Discretion
Students are to look at various Poster designs paying particular attention to genre codes and conventions. Identifying key signs and signifiers in the construction of individual posters that engage the desired audience.
Students will pay close attention to Palettes, layouts and intended meaning of particular texts.
Students shall then create their own posters, using original photography using Adobe packages such as Photoshop or Illustrator. Each student is to explain why they have chosen a particular style, palette and use of iconography in an attempt to construct a particular genre in their designs
