Unit 33 Content

Task 1

You will be given lessons in class which will focus on the work of several Animators and Animations. You will also be given an individual research task to explore; a director or studio associated with the development of stop-motion.

You will also receive practical sessions about frame-rate, stop-frame, time-lapse and modelling, as well as sessions on the appropriate use of the equipment.

Then, you will prepare and deliver a presentation about the techniques used in stop-motion and the development of it as a form. You should aim to use several comprehensively explained examples and to use appropriate subject terminology throughout your presentation.

You might want to divide your presentation into two main areas; the development of stop motion and the techniques of stop motion. Aim for around thirty slides and about fifteen minutes, alternatively a video presentation is acceptable.

This provides evidence for P1, M1, D1

Deadline - Feb 26th

Task 2

You should produce your ideas for your stop-motion and soundtrack. Remember, you have been asked to produce a short (20-30 second) video that includes stop motion animation to serve as the opening sequence for one of three different industries.

1. A new children’s television show aimed at young primary-aged children.

2. The opening sequence to a Music Video Channel

3. A moving business design logo for a corporate business website

You should aim to work independently to show imagination in your design and to aspire to professional production standards. This means you need to complete excellent pre-production.

Your pre-production log should include as a minimum:

·         Initial ideas – mind-maps or notes

·         Development – further sketches, character designs, location

          designs, technical ideas

·         Notes on audio; temp tracks

·         Audience notes; audience profile, evidence of initial audience               research (focus group.)

·         Final plans – storyboards, soundtrack, technical notes, character

          designs.

This provides evidence for P2, M2, D2

Deadline - Apr 11th

Task 3

Produce your stop-motion animation and soundtrack.  You should be working independently and aiming for professional standards of work.

Your final piece should be engaging to a young audience. As such, it should probably exploit various camera angles, a degree of movement in the characters and the setting and a range of colours. Frame rate should be consistent and lighting should be controlled and colour should be balanced. Music and image should be carefully synced. As an opening sequence, you will need some graphics to identify the show.

This provides evidence for P3, M3, D3

Deadline - May 30th

Task 4

You should show your stop-motion to an audience, then gather their responses using questionnaires and/ or interviews. Write an evaluation of your work, considering the responses from your audience, using explained examples and subject terminology.

You need to choose your audience and create a method to gather feedback – you could interview a small audience or use a questionnaire with a bigger audience (or both, which would be preferable.)

You need to interrogate the results, then produce a minimum 1000 word evaluation of your own work, from initial idea generation to final product.

This provides evidence for P4, M4, D4

Deadline - June 10th

Final Deadline - June 16th
